What makes Tomher water tanks special?

All Tomher water tanks are rotomoulded using 100% New Zealand imported melt compounded resin to further enhance the appearance and durability of our water tanks.

Why do you use polyethylene resin for water storage?

The polyethylene resin we use for our water tanks is 100% food grade and comes from New Zealand which means your water is safe for drinking. The resin complies with AS/NZS 4020:2002, Products for Use in Contact with Drinking Water and AS2070 (1999), Plastic Materials for Food Contact Use.

What do I need to know before I buy a water tank?

Consider these before buying a water tank:

  • space allocated for water tank
  • purpose for buying water tank, i.e: for drinking water storage.
  • budget
  • tank size needed

How do I determine the tank size that I need?

It depends on your usage capacity. However, the most popular water tank size for domestic usage is 400 gallons.

Are there any regulations that I need to follow to install my water tank?

All water tanks are delivered with tank installation guidelines stickers. To prolong the lifespan of your water tanks, please follow the installation guidelines.

What fittings come with Tomher tanks?

Our water tanks are pre-fitted with a standard ¾” water tank connector for inlet, outlet and drainage. Other water tank connector sizes are available upon customer request.

What is the warranty duration for Tomher water tanks?

You get 10 years’ warranty when you buy our Premium Grade Cuboid™ Tank and Rainbow™ Tank.

What are the added features of the Tomher water tanks?

Tomher water tanks include features such as:

  • Unique special blue or black colour with superior mirror finish tank interior and exterior
  • Formulated with anti-oxidants to protect resin from degradation and for maximum UV protection
  • Imported melt compounded resin has superior mechanical properties compared to standard water tank materials
  • Enhanced water tank life span
  • Tank colours will not fade with time

How long do Tomher water tanks last?

The normal lifespan for our PE water tanks is 50 years with proper handling and installation. Due to the harsh climate in the South East Asia, normal plastic tanks are likely to degrade under direct sunlight. However, our tanks are developed using superior tank material with ultra UV 20, which will prevent UV light degradation.

Can Tomher help me to get all the necessary approvals for my septic tank installation? What documents are required to get approval?

Before installing your septic tank, the Sewerage Services Department (SSD) for your local area must be consulted to determine the appropriate form of sewage treatment for your property or proposed development area. All septic tank systems need local authority approval first. This must be submitted for approval after a professional engineer endorses:

  • Tomher Septic Tank Engineering Design Calculations
  • Tomher Septic Tank Installation Drawings
  • Installation site plan

We can recommend competent professional engineers if you need any.

What causes septic tanks to smell after some time?

There should be no smell from your septic tanks under normal operating conditions, proper usage and maintenance. If your sewer system develops a smell, this is an indication of misuse, and you should have your system inspected, especially if the following occurs:

  • Water is draining away slowly
  • Drain pipes are making noise and produce air bubbles
  • Sewage smells are coming from house drains
  • Water is backing up into the house drains

These problems should be reported immediately to your maintenance company, contractor or individual responsible for the standard maintenance of your sewerage system, as they are indications that the sewerage system is being misused.

What is the difference between a concrete septic tank and a Tomher Septic Tank?

A concrete septic tank is “cast in-situ” which means the whole tank is manufactured on site. Concrete septic tanks have 2 chambers consisting of the primary settlement chamber and the filtration chamber. The filtration chamber works on downflow filtration using gravity to carry the partially settled effluent downwards through the filter bed (normally stone aggregate). This media is difficult (and heavy) to replace or clean, when it is saturated with biological growth.

Tomher septic tanks are prefabricated tanks and work on the principle of primary settlement and upflow filtration. The settled solid material remains at the bottom of the tank, and by displacement due to incoming material, the remaining liquid is then carried upwards into the filter chamber for anaerobic digestion through the filter chamber.

The filter chamber contains a unique proprietary technology called Bio-Balls which filter solids in the effluent and promote the growth of bacteria for digestion of organic material. These Bio-Balls are essentially maintenance free and easy to clean or replace.

What should not go into the Tomher septic tank?

Tomher septic tanks are designed for the treatment of organic waste from domestic, commercial and industrial premises. Inorganic materials such as paint, thinners, bleaches or other inorganic materials should not enter the tank as these will reduce or kill the bacterial growth in the Tomher septic tank.

Large quantities of food waste should not be introduced to the tank unless accounted for in the design calculations. This additional organic waste may cause problems in your sewerage system, and will reduce the interval for desludging and scum removal of the tank. Grease, oil, plastic materials, disposable sanitary products and other solid waste material should not be allowed to enter the Tomher septic tank. These materials may cause problems in your sewerage system such as blockages, excess scum levels and/or other problems relating to the correct operation of your septic tank.
